My mother used to tell me that most New Yorkers believed that anything above 125th Street in Manhattan was ‘upstate’ New York. She wasn’t wrong. Many native New Yorkers wrongly identify locations in New York as upstate New York.
So… I will go over and give some clarification so you will be informed about the Empire State.
There are basically 11 different areas of New York State. Let’s get into it.
Capital District: Saratoga, Albany, Schenectady and Rensselaer Counties
Adirondack Region: Franklin, Clinton, Lewis, Herkimer, Hamilton, Essex, Warren, Fulton, and Washington Counties.
Catskills: Delaware, Greene, Ulster, and Sullivan Counties
Hudson Valley: Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam, Orange, Westchester, and Rockland Counties
Central New York: Oneida, Montgomery, Madison, Schoharie, Otsego, Chenango, and Broome Counties
Thousand Island Region: Jefferson, Oswego, and St. Lawrence Counties
Finger Lakes Region: Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, Livingston, Yates, Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Cortland, Tompkins, Schuyler, Steuben, Chemung and Tioga Counties.

Umm... From a lifelong WNY resident... (Who's been all over the State from South Southhampton to Ripley; Massena to NYC.) Niagara is spelled Niagara.
I'd be honored to entertain you, Nancy; take you to dinner at some of the small family run Italian restaurants in The Falls. (As we WNY residents refer to it.)
